Apropos of this recent thing, I had an audition at an Episcopalian church that's closer to home and pays more (also involves more work, but I think it's like 2.5x the $ for 2x the hours, something like that - also closer to home and Episcopalian), and it all went really well, and today I got the news that they hired the other candidate. I have this side job as a church choir section leader. When we all stopped going anywhere and certainly stopped singing in churches in March 2020, the longtime music director at my church job* had been retired† and his replacement announced, but the change wasn't going to happen until the fall ( Read more... )

Following the sudden death last summer of my chorus's music director, this year and next we're having guest conductors for each concert cycle while a nationwide (worldwide, for all I know) search determines who will be our next boss for real. So I had this cold. It's not unheard of for people to have head colds in December. Especially given a series of other stressful events, to wit:

• 11/16, root canal phase 1
  
• 11/21, pre-Thanksgiving party at our house
  
• 11/24-29, family at our house for Thanksgiving
  
• 12/2, my uncle died just after midnight and we drove up to New York in the evening

Christmas concerts with the big chorus are done. Work is at a manageable dull roar for the moment. ( Well, except this one work thing. )

I am having a very, very hard time believing that Thanksgiving is eleven days from now. I mean I guess I can't say I can't believe it, but JFC, where has the time gone!? Home from midnight Mass 2am. Himself reports that he woke up when I came in, but not enough to bother looking at the clock, and he did go back to sleep, so I'm calling that a success. Back up again and on my way out to sing two (!) more regular daylight Masses and then home for roast dinner - we're not doing movies and Chinese food like normal ( Read more... )

• took my car in to the shop (needed a new headlight and some fixing to a door sill and one of the washer fluid jets)
  
• went to two or three banks so Himself could deposit checks in various accounts
